Affirmations to
Stop Smoking
Affirmations to
stop smoking can be particularly effective in
easing the difficulties of stopping smoking. Your
thoughts are largely responsible for how you feel, and
for triggering related responses.
One reason, why
smoking is such an attractive and pleasurable pursuit for
countless people, is because they keep telling themselves
that they enjoy it! That is the crux of the matter. They
repeatedly tell themselves that they love smoking, so
there is no need to stop smoking. They are constantly
saying to themselves, I need to smoke, I want to smoke,
so why should I stop smoking.
With a little
endeavor we can change the way we think about smoking, by
changing to affirmations to stop smoking.
Affirmations can be automatic or deliberate. If they are
automatically destructive, as they may be with smoking,
we should deliberately change them for something
constructive, as with the desirable effect of not
smoking. If this seems a little complicated it isn't
really. When we are not sleeping we are all thinking
constantly. Much of this thinking, or self talk as it is
also known, is not something that we do consciously, but
it is there automatically reflecting our live
circumstances. When the affirmations or self-talk are
leading us down the wrong path, it is time to take a hand
and 'think' differently.
Strangely, it's a
good idea to leave the word 'smoking' out of your
deliberate affirmations to stop smoking. You may be
already giving the green light to smoking in your
automatic assertions, so leave the word out of your
deliberate affirmations, and concentrate on the benefits
of stopping smoking. So let's get to it, here are a
number of anti-smoking affirmations that you can choose
to start using, to cancel out those that have been
kidding you that smoking is OK.
Pick out the ones
that appeal to you, and consciously repeat them whenever
negative thoughts enter your head. Incidentally if you
develop this technique it can assist you in attaining
many other goals.
Choose from these
examples or devise some of your own:
I can change
my habits by changing my mind.
I am strong
enough to overcome any challenge.
I love being
able to breathe freely.
I take one
step at a time to where I want to be.
I nourish my
body with healthy habits.
I believe in
my ability to do anything I desire
I feel so
free.
My teeth are
white, my skin is glowing and I feel great.
I love taking
good care of my body.
I honor and
respect myself always.
I deserve a
clean, healthy body.
Best Way To Use
Affirmations To Stop Smoking
The best way to use
affirmations is to constantly repeat them, under your breath,
with focused attention. Endeavor to experience the feeling
relevant to the words. For instance if you say, "I love being
able to breathe freely", you should fill you lungs with fresh
air and enjoy the experience. It may take a little practice to
master the technique, but it will serve you well in all you
do.
Frequent repetition
several times a day is imperative, because you are endeavoring
to prioritize new beliefs in your subconscious mind. Remember
that a belief is nothing more that a thought, but thoughts are
responsible for everything you do. So if you think of yourself
as being successful it will be difficult to fail, whether your
aim is to stop smoking or anything else.
You may have been
telling yourself that smoking calms you down. Physiologically,
smoking cannot do this, but many smokers have told themselves
so often that it does that they believe it! It is because of
this belief; they seem to feel more relaxed after smoking. To
overcome this false premise you need to replace it with a
positive alternative, like affirming that you are relaxed and
calm already, thus eliminating an excuse for
smoking.
The examples of stop
smoking affirmations above will help get you started, but feel
free to write your own too! Think about the aspects of smoking
you enjoy, and come up with a phrase that affirms you already
feel that way again, not mentioning smoking! Likewise, think
about how you feel as a non-smoker and emphasize those positive
qualities too.
You will soon start
devising and using anti-smoking affirmations of your own, to
take a bigger part in your own success, although it's all down
to you anyway. You will realize that you have been kidding
yourself, and know for sure that smoking and anything to do
with it is taboo. Your affirmations may take a while to kick in
but they are ready, willing, and able to help you quit
smoking.
